Well there are lot's of way to make preloaders in flash.
There are three different loading pages in flash.

The first is very simple, and if you are new to flash I would suggest this one for you.

This is a page that says loading, with some kind of animation until the movie is finished.

The second is involves action scipting and we've all seen on the internet before, a scrolling bar, that grows as the page loads. Similiar to installing a program.

The last is more complex dealing with action scripting where you have a %, the amount loaded, the amount left . . etc.

If you're new to flash or not familiar with actionscripting I would suggest the first preloader. One I made can be previewed here: http://www.mrsparklenj.com

I can help you if you would like me too.

Yep, I wrote it :D

And I kept it "Flash 5 enabled" so it would be easier incorporated by viewers.

For example... instead of a frame loop, in MX I could have used an onEnterFrame dynamic event handler or in Flash 5 I could have used an empty movieclip symbol running an onClipEvent(enterFrame), but to explain the 2 versions would have been confusing, so frame loop it was! (a frame loop is when you keep going back to a certain frame until an if statement tells you not to)

And in Flash MX I would have given the textbox an instance name, but instead I gave it a var name, since Flash 5 textboxes don't have Instance Name availability.

The littlest things count sometimes 8)

Hey shane,

I read your tutorial on making the preloader and followed every
lil bit of instuctions you gave. In any case.....as I did for some strange
reason the load bar starts in the middle and on both ends grow
untill 100% is reached which is well okay but strange...where instead
id like it to work it's growth from left to right like yours. What am I doing
wrong??
