I putting up a link to a motion graphic file of mine as well as links to my dj sets. problem is it automatically downloads the file instead of opening it or playing the file. in both instances I've used

Code: [ Select ]
on (release) {
    getURL("file.estension");
}
  1. on (release) {
  2.     getURL("file.estension");
  3. }

this works for downloading but like I said I need it to open the file not download it

thanks
ryan

Depends on the file type. Flash automatically opens up the file in it's default program, there isn't really a way around this unless you embed the file in an html page and use the getURL to open that page (again depends on file type).

My mp3's automatically begin to dowload as well as realplayer files.

I've store the realplayer file on my server and made a link using getURL to retrieve that file.

For an mp3 you would probably have to embed that into an html page and stream it, then use the getURL to open up that page.

Or you could stream it in Flash using the Sound() object :p (ala http://www.kennybellew.com/tutorial/ )

You can do something like:

http://206.169.124.65/audio/button.php

which streams the audio on the fly as opposed to embedding one song
into new seperate movies.

written with php + ming.
