There are many versions of Macromedia Flash out there at various prices.
If I went with an older version of flash (ex v.8 instead of MX 2004) would I loose a lot of features?
I will be doing a lot of actionscript programming.

Any suggestions?

v. 8? MX 2004 is v. 7, so i'm pretty sure that wouldn't be going older :)

And if you are just beginning in ActionScript you may want to start with Flash MX 2004. The reason being that FMX2k4 introduces the new ActionScript 2.0. And it still fully supports ActionScript 1.0. So you can learn all the original basics, but keep up to date on the new syntax and all that jazz.

ActionScript 2.0 is stricter and more true to object oriented programming thatn ActionScript 1.0 is in case you were wondering.
