i have repaired (to date) 6 of these exact laptops! they are well known for the power adapter shorting in them. in each and every case i have soldered a newer and stronger adapter in its place. and have never had any of the customers call back with the problem. it is progressively going to get worse...

looks to be 100% malware / pest free to me! you are clean as a whistle! I personally would take out all those (legitimate) BHO's though, but then thats just me. maybe even some of those startups. but if your not having any probs then just leave as is.

if you get an error that the ISTsvc directory in not there. then just delete the entries in hijackthis or msconfig. while it is true that win98 will run slightly faster, since windows xp does take more memory resources i would still stick with xp. with your 256mb ram in the system. you'll have plenty of room to work with xp with out any slowdown. with win98/98se it is old an antiquated OS as ATNO pointed out. ad...
