So i installed vista and i also have Windows Xp on dual boot. I had done that so that if i face problems in vista i will have XP as backup. Anyway Vista has actually surpassed all my expectations and requirements so im thinking of removing Xp to free up space on my drives. Also another problem is that because of having 2 windows i actually have to install each software individually on both the windows so it now takes double the amount of space. So i was wondering if someone could tell me how to remove/uninstall Windows XP?

Is there anyway else to do it without booting the Vista CD? because my drive isnt working properly and it isnt booting the CD for some reason. I remember in windows xp i just simply edited the boot.ini file or something.

I have no idea. Apparently removing XP from a dual boot with Vista isn't all that simple. Good luck.

If your machine isn't booting from the CD, you need to check the boot sequence in the BIOS.

The fact that XP is closer to the boot sector maybe a problem. If you boot to Vista and open Disk Manager, do you see the partition with XP on it? You may be able to delete it and recreate it so you can reclaim the storage space.

IMO, it's still a little to early to get rid of XP. All manufacturers don't have Vista drivers ready.

Personally I would format and install a fresh copy of XP :D. But in your case you would install Vista.
