From what I hear webmasters can see who visits they're site and what they do. If so, what exactly can they see just an ip address or does IE give info out. The reason im asking is cause I have a program that needs a patch. And the only place I can get the patch is off of the software companies website. But I didn't buy the software (im a student that cant afford it and it is a very old version). So what im asking is what can they, just that i visited or that i downloaded a patch and my info. thanks,

Here's what it sounds like to me...

You downloaded an expensive piece of software off of Kazaa, and now
you want/need to update it. However, you're scared that the company
that wrote the software is going to find out that you didn't really buy
that software and are going to come after you with a chisel and gummy
bears to torture you into paying their fees.

Forgive my sarcasm, but i've seen this way too many times to take it
serious any more. This is the reason software is expensive in the first
place these days. :x

JUST GO BUY THE SOFTWARE PEOPLE!!!!!! :bad-words:

The only info that is collected is:
IP
Browser type
Operating System
Resolution
Referral link (if any)
Date & time visited site

I collect and collate these kinds of figures from my websites monthly - it gives me a good indication of the kinds of visitors I have to my sites - I use that information in my upgrading of sites & more so my marketing strategies, if more referrals are coming from a particular place or somewhere new then I can look into upgrading my advertising with that referrer.

It doesnt collect anything further than that.

jeese b_heyer, Dont yell at me. Forgive my sarcasm Unflux, but have you ever tried to do homework in a computer lab that only offers about three hours a day of usage and has a schedule that changes day to day. I am a student that is poor and works full time. It is hard to do either of the options(pay 3000 dollars or work in the lab). And i didn't download off Kazaa (for your statistics). But seriously when you have to learn a 3d modeling program and do homework say once a week at a lab for say an hour then go sit in a lobby for two waiting for the class thats taught in the lab then go back after the class is done and try and get back into what you were doing. It is very hard.

thankyou for your answers.

I think you got your people mixed up. Unflux was 'yelling', and Unflux was being sarcastic. Hmm I guess you didn't read close enough.

Anyways, thank you for participating.

I wasn't necessrily yelling at you specifically, rather at software stealers.

I know how it is to be a student -- very well thank you. I graduated
college "for your statistics." I didn't have a computer in school either. :)

Just as a point of interest, software is usually available to students at a
VERY discounted rate, much more affordable.
