The announcement came just shortly after the company reported a net loss of $98.7 billion for 2002. Those results included a $45.5 billion fourth-quarter charge related primarily to depreciation in the value of its America Online unit, as well as a first-quarter charge of $54 billion in accordance with accounting rules changes that took effect last year.

If AOL would quit *peach* charging people $24 for DIAL UP access, they might be able to keep some customers and get more new customers. That's *peach* rediculas what they charge. Hell, there's local dial up access in town here that gives service for $12.99 per month, that's almost half the price of AOL.

Yeah well if anything they should make a ton of money from what they charge for the people that do use them. I am sure they did alot of stupid spending and poor choices to get themselves in that situation.

it's also because of their programming on tv. Their channels have the worst shows
ever, and I don't know anyone who watches. CNN/SI already folded, and there's
talk about TNT going under as well.

The biggest hit they took tho, was with WCW. They were paying out so much
more than they were making to the wrestlers, and never got above water with it.
Not to mention the show was horrible, and the wrestlers and characters were awful
so NOBODY watched. That'll do it every time...

I'm glad, cuz I personally think Ted Turner is a good reason why tv isn't better
than it is. He's a man with a lot of money and ideas, but not the know-how to
accomplish it. He's like the Bengals owner of TV = let the experts call the shots!

ok i feel better now....[sigh]
