They are now coming out with HP Slate to combate the Apple iPad. It's like a laptop in a different form.

And nokia is suing apple for copyrights? Not sure how anyone can use a multitouch and not have infringement.

A few years ago when I was shopping for a laptop I did an apples for apples (so to speak) hardware comparison of different laptops, and it turns out that the macbook hardware was identical to sony vaio hardware, but the sony was $800 more. The difference between macs and PCs any more is aesthetics and operating system.

Really? I have a Viao and I paid way less than any Mac on the market...
that's weird because I bought it about two years ago and was really going back and forth between an HP and a Mac and ended up with a Vaio. I can use either and don't hate on Mac but refused to pay extra for one.

I was a college student at the time so I got a bit of a discount from Apple, I don't remember but I bet I factored in that discount amount. But its still kind of funny because technically you could get a vaio and install OS X and technically it wouldn't be a hacintosh since it is the same hardware.

The whole slate is like a netbook type thing. Kind of cool though...

At the moment, I would be more interested in the HP offering than the Apple one. It seems like it's going to be a lot more capable.

Because it will be. If it's capable of running any OS of the user's choice, than having an open development platform (unlike the iPod/iPad) is a huge advantage.
I built a mash tun out of a Rubbermaid cooler!

I'm into craft beer and homebrewing. Sometimes, I write about it on the Internet.

That is the big minus for the ipad, not actually running OS X. For me its kind of a deal breaker and it really does just make it a giant ipod touch.
