I am a huge Metallica fan and have been a disappointed one ever since they released Load/Reload. I'm not even going to discuss St. Anger.

However, I do like Death Magnetic. It is no ...And Justice For All by any stretch of the imagination but it appears Metallica attempted to go back to what they are known for and what made them famous. The only gripe I have about the album is that the songs are way too long. Every song but two are over 7 minutes. That is just retarded. The thing is, the songs just feel too long. Metallica has never been one to write short songs but they never felt long like these do.

Lyrically I think they took a couple of steps backward. The songs remind me of Kill'Em All. Of course I haven't really taken the time to read the lyrics but from a casual listen they just seem lame.

I also like how they embraced digital media after effectively killing Napster in the 90's. It is also rumored they personally leaked Death Magnetic to the p2p sites a few days before the official release.

Overall not a bad release and would love to see them live when they swing by DC in January.

Of the Load album I like Until it Sleeps and King Nothing. But those are the only ones I have heard. I just tried listening to "The Outlaw Torn" and that doesn't sound too well :( ... On Youtube by the way...

The other song's titles don't sound pleasing.

I actually started the length of the songs yesterday when I was listening to them. But that is because I have heard the songs i have heard about 5-6 times (Except Apocalypse And the Judas Kiss and cyanide)...

lol

I especially like one of their late release, it's called "The day that never comes". But like what you said it's little too long, After repeating the song a few times, get bored now.
