Does technology make the world a safer place to live? What do you think? Biotech has saved lives, but what about WMD?

What about them?

Rocks have bee used to build houses, but they have also been used to bludgeon people to death...

Fire cooks the food we eat, and kills many of the bacteria & viruses that may otherwise kill us. Fire has also killed people...

Everything has its good and bad points.

Technology makes the world both safer & more dangerous at the same time.

I would argue yes, but only mechanical technology in the sence that it replaces humans in dangerous situations. Other technologies don't make life safer they make it easier (clicker box, cars). although one could argue that this things that make life easier increase our risk of heart attack etc.

Biotech has saved lives, but what about WMD?
WMD are not really technology, technology is what makes it fater to build the bombs, and to send them to the right place. The most dangerous wepons nowadays are biological and chemical wepons, which are not technology as they have been around all the time.
Besides, it's not like we have to worry about them in Iraq, unless Bush decides to sell them some more
