http://candy-crate.stores.yahoo.net/pennycandy.html

Man, when I was a kid, a nickle could buy so much. Oddly I calculated the approximate price and they still roughly come to a penny albeit sold in larger quantities.

I think the idea of "Penny Candy" is/was a US thing. Essentially, any piece of candy, sold individually for a cent. Mary Janes, Squirell Nut Zippers, Double Lollies...YUM!

uuuu... there was a fad when I was in elementary school for mega-ultra-exxxtremely sour chewing gum - apple flavor was my favourite - which would really mess with the inside of your head.... the intense flavor only lasted for a few seconds, less than a minute certainly, but believe me it was enough. I got really addicted to those things for a while back there.....

That's exactly what Warheads are, but they're hard candies rather than gum. We used to see who could eat the most at one time.
