I was just about to post this same question. It's happened frequently and for no apparent reason.

Typically it's caused by an incompatible extension. I haven't had any problems with mine crashing although, I must say that it is annoyingly slow to start.

I was having crashing problems with firefox a week or two ago, but not for any apparrant reason. I'm not sure what version it was, but it was on an ubuntu machine. I was trying to type an email from my gmail account whilst simultaneously in a gmail chat with someone else. When that person would send a message by chat, as long as I was composing an email it would crash. I quit multitasking and everything was fine.

I don't have any extensions added, so i'm going to rule that one. I multi task and usually have about 10-15 tabs open at any one time (a bad habit i've got into).

When i've been at computer at time of crashing, it seems to be when loading sites up. It will take an absolute age and if there are a couple of pages loading then it's as if it is under a great deal of pressure and then crashes.

I'lve left the computer though at times doing nothing, no installs or downloads and it still crashes.

Well, in theory, one of the things 3.0.11 was supposed to fix was crashes

I've seen a few references to the possibility of Java causing crashes in .11

Even if you didn't install any extensions yourself, if you have Java installed on your computer, then you most likely have Java Quick starter Extension, Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_14 for Mozilla browsers, and possibly Java(TM) Platform SE binary Plugin . Try disabling those if you do.

Actually, i was about to suggest Java as being the problem but something in me convinced myself that i was being stupid and didn't bother.

Definitely think it's a Java issue now you say that Mark.

I've had Flash ad banners crash Firefox in the last month or three. Opera will just display a blank box where the Flash would be, but Firefox crashes.
Strong with this one, the sudo is.

I find it somewhat slower these days. Could be because of many reasons though.

Recently I was experiencing so many crashing sessions with my Firefox and I scanned my computer and no viruses or Trojans were there. The simple solution was to uninstall it and then downloading a new fresh version from Mozilla site and installing again.

Viruses/Trojans would have little to do with crashes. I had issues with mine for a bit. Windows blinds actually turned out to be what was killing it. At times, it would crash during start up 5 or 6 times in a row before coming up.
I'd love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.
