According to the article:

NEW YORK - After two world-renowned architects spent months debating the size and shape of the tower that will rise at the World Trade Center site, a compromise design was announced Friday for what could be the world’s tallest building -- and one that incorporates safety features like separate staircases for firefighters and “blast-resistant glaze” on the lobby glass.

I think that would be an important symbol if they replaced what used to be the world trade centers with the tallest building in the world. That would kind of demonstrate that Americans will fight back and not be afraid and will put something even larger there than before.

I just watched the video on it here:

http://video.msn.com/launch.htm?m=tdy_c ... csid=Msnbc

and they plan to create the tower to be 1776 feet tall, which is also the year that the United States declared independence. Also the tower will be built in a way to capture the wind so that it can use turbines within the building to generate much of it own power, which should please environmentalists.

Looks infinitely nicer than those cheesy generic boring crampted tiny window towers that where there before.

very futuristic and clean design.

I like it and everything, but aren't we just asking for another terrorist attack by building the tallest building on Earth? (They did say it'll be the tallest, right?)
