Well Gmail.com is a preview site which tells you everything about Google's new email service. Looks like I am signing up as soon as its available.

It's a shame it's not @google.com...

Can you imagine somebody registering seo@google.com? Now that's an E-Mail address worth paying for, lol.

With the domain name being gmail.com, I'm going to assume the E-Mail addresses are also @gmail.com (I vaguely remember reading somewhere that this is what was going to be used, but can't remember my source off-hand).

I highly doubt they'd give away addresses @google.com, but anything's possible I guess. :)

Curious. I prefer not to post where I found this:
Quote:
The deal is...They tell you....sit down for this

They will spider your mail ...the mail you get as well as send...software is going to look for key words to determain what your into...then direct the ads to your account...

Now that has the sound of 1984 and is almost creepy re what they could do...but then again any company like MS or Yahoo could be doing the same...at least Google is open about what they are up too

So they need you to have a huge amount of storage so they can scan and have you hold and not delete mail.

They even have a gimmick they offer...They want you to keep the mail and tell you...you can do a search of your own mail

Key words to sort into past mail to find something--which could be very usefull

Any thoughts on this?

uhh, ATNO, wasn't that apparent by the fact that searching was easily implemented into the mail server and that:
[T]here are no pop-ups or banner ads in Gmail, just relevant text ads and links to related pages.
http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/about.html

kinda seemed obvious to me since they are giving you 'custom Tailored ads'

Maybe I just have more grains of salt then others ;)

Yeah, I just read an article on how Google will scan your email to see what ads are most relevant...kinda scary there.

You guys must have really interesting lives to get emails that need to be hidden away like that? What exactly do you do that is so important but has ? I doubt the people at google are going to read all of the penis enlargement spam that you get

Seriously though, I can't see how people can complain, take a look at:
http://www.ozzu.com/ftopic154.html. thats a bit more worrying methinks.....

It's not like google are going to neccessarily read your mail - same as they dont have a big big room full of monkeys that spend all day clicking links to build the google database. Also if you don't want them to spider it, don't sign up.
