Like a lot of things Google does, this is one of those "projects" that I didn't know they had going. According to Google's announcement over 150,000 ideas from over 170 countries were submitted. The final five were chosen and received a total distribution of $10 million.

The winners:
Idea: Make educational content available online for free
Idea: Enhance science and engineering education
Idea: Make government more transparent
Idea: Drive innovation in public transport
Idea: Provide quality education to African students

I think the one that caught my attention the most in the list is the first one. I checked out the Khan Academy website. This might not be something that everyone finds beneficial, but it certainly will be something my girlfriend and I will use. Her oldest child is 12 (in sixth grade) and is progressively learning things that I haven't even looked at in over 30 years. He's been bringing home math homework on factoring numbers. So I looked at the few videos they had on factoring and if the other videos are just as good as those were, they are really going to be beneficial in helping him with his schoolwork.

I am really glad that Google choose this organisation and Google's appetite for big ideas led to Project 10^100, a call for ideas that change the world by helping as many people as possible.
