IMHO: Don't dismiss the dating. It serves as good relationship practice and helps you discover what qualities in yourself and a significant other are important. Trust me... I'm 30 and juuuust figuring that out now.

Ummm... and there are a few other bonuses, but I'm keeping this strictly Dr. Phil. ;)

I also find dating in high school to be completely pointless. It makes me especially sick when my 15-year-old friends say stupid things like "I think I'm in love with Bob!" My usual response to that is, "Uh, weren't you just in love with Bill last month?" Haha, as the father in 10 Things I Hate About You says,
"You don't know what you want. And you won't know what you want until you're 45, and even if you get it, you'll be too old to use it."

Rah! Yes, that saying rocks. And so does that movie. But it may just be my partiality to Heath Ledger ;)

Geekette, you're totally right. It is pretty lame. But, it does lead to better things. :)

Mmhmm, I guess it all comes down to whether you'd rather be damned now or later. Later sounds better to me. :-)

yeah, maybe it can't hurt to spare yourself the troubles of dating for now. especially in consideration of your maturity and nature which is likely in stark contrast with high school guys.
