From Here...

The software giant launched the first version of the browser internet explorer 1 on August 16, 1995. It was a revised version of Spyglass Mosaic, which Microsoft had licensed from Spyglass Inc. The first version came with Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95 and the original equipment manufacturer release of Windows 95.

My first experience with internet explorer was IE 4. I didn't start using a computer until 1997'ish.
Honestly, I preferred to use alternative browsers even back then, starting with Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0.

Now IE9 is right around the corner:

I actually had Firefox scan a downloaded image for viruses all on it's own the other day, I was surprised.

I miss the IE 4-5 days when ActiveX was awesome, before people started exploiting it to break into systems. Browsers suck these days, you can't do anything cool. It's like living in Soviet Russia.
