i recently vistited a site which changed my homepage i thought no big deal i'll just go to control, internet options and change it back but it turns out the site some how locked the hompage. In the place were you should be able to type in the site you want as your homepage its just in that duller grey colour which means you cant type anything in. Does anyone know how to get past this?

I had this happened once to me.. :x they have a damn cheek, not only that its a poo to get right again!
in i.e clear your history, delete cookies, delete files, re-start your comp, then see if your browser bar is empty...it should be!
then go to do the page you want as your homepage, then click apply..most important.
Any problems sazn please post again.
suzie.

It really depends on which homepage hijacker you've contracted. I would begin by doing a google search for the page that is replacing you're homepage. For instance "SearchV" is a particularly stubborn homepage hijacker and requires a bit of tedious effort to remove.

What is the address that is being loaded as your homepage? Perhaps an Ozzu member has done battle with it.

Couldn't a spyware removal tool fix this problem? I've had my homepage hijacked before and Adaware fixed it up.

Not always. Sometimes it takes a little more effort.

I wouldn't think that ad-aware might cause this, I am not sure though...

Calendae: You should look at my first post in this thread. If you 've gotten bit by the hijacker, you can probably find instructions to completely remove it.

What's the URL of the page you're getting?

Cool! Adaware has fixed a ton of problems for me, but in support of those who prefer Spybot Search and Destroy, it usually finds a few leftovers that Adaware misses. I prefer Adaware, because it has a more user-friendly interface, but I use them both. Here's Spybot's link if you want to give it a shot in the future:

Glad to hear Adaware hooked you up. It is an awesome program, the Pro version has the Ad-watch which will deter most spyware before it gets you. You would be amazed at how much it will block while surfing the net.
