Has anyone else noticed a great deal of Spam being sent to their Hotmail accounts? I have been unable to log onto the internet since Friday and for the first time since getting my Hotmail account about 5 years ago i had to delete 23 spam messages from my inbox.

Whilst this may not seem alot for some people, its a great deal more than i have had to deal with since this account was born. Most before then would have been about 5-8.

I am just wondering if this is a common thing amongst Hotmail users, or if my Junk mailbox is goosed. My junk-mailbox took in only 19 emails in the last week. It seems a little odd.

It's pretty obvious now and your spam message are not much compare to mine.

There are few ways spammer getting to our mailbox.
1. By guessing of course.
2. Extracting from the web using certain software.
3. Email databank.

Here's some tips which i comes up that might be useful to avoid spammer. I got mailbox which didn't even get a single spam for 2 years. :D It would be usefull if you got private mailbox which don't want any spammer.
1. Register your email with combination of alphanumerical and make sure it's hard to guess. Email name are not case sensitive.
2. Don't used your private email to register or subcribe to any website submission or newsletter even at ebay.
3. Only used it for correspondense.

If you mark them all as spam, & it doesn't happen again for awhile after that, I think it's just spammers using a new tactic that filters haven't learned yet.

I get small spurts on my gmail account once in a blue moon, soon as I mark thoose few as spam they cease though.
Why yes, yes I am.

Hotmail and yahoo spam filler is still pretty good compare to gmail. Also i didn't see any option there in hotmail to mark the mail as spam in hotmail. The option only have it at yahoo mail.

My Hotmail account i only use for signing up to websites so i kind of expect Spam, its just how much its recieved this last week is quite unusual. I was beginning to suspect Hotmail were wanting to "make me suffer" because i stopped using their Hotmail Beta as i don't particularly like it.

Cheers for the replies.

I guess I've never really had any problems with spam and I use my email address pretty much for everything other than work email. I do pay for their premium service the 19.95 yearly service and I love that but I sign up for things on that account as well and everything filters in to my junk mail folder automatically and everything.

I never mark anything as spam either. I might get 3-5 spam messages daily on a bad day. I guess I might just be one of the few that has wonderful luck.

hehe I get about 22 spam messages a day, I don't mark em as spam though as I use outlook express to get my email.
The account is used to sign up to all sites i consider "likely to be untrustworthy". For example I used my gmail account to sign up to this site because I considered it trustworthy ;)
