It does so appear he is trying to run a basic web server off his AMD64. He probably does not have must knowledge about doing (as is obvious by him asking the question) so therefore I would stick to windows if I was in his shoes. The question on my mind is how popular is his website. He will obviously be using his home connection to host it therefore the downloads speeds would depend on his home connection.

Of course this is also assuming that his DSL/Cable company allows him to run a server, as some do and some do not allow such activity.

For just putting some files out there for people to download, I reccomend AnalogX Simpleserver. It is not very expandable, but it is really easy to use.

Hmm. Why not leave the firewall on and open up port 80 for http traffic?

That will only work while your current IP is active. Unless you're paying for a static IP address, which I doubt... When you reconnect to your ISP, your IP address will be different (DHCP) and you'll have to reset the DNS mapping in your domain's zone file.

There are some services out there that let you map your systems dynamic IP with a static domain name.

http://www.zoneedit.com/

I used these guys for several years before I a side company that had DNS servers I could mooch off of. They also do dynamic DNS hosting. Check them out... You set up your dynamic zone, and you don't have to worry about re-mapping the DNS with your new IP every time you reboot or reconnect.
