Speaking of outsourcing...

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier Wednesday that IBM is looking to cut about 5,000 positions mostly in its global business services unit as it shifts work to India (Techmeme).

Boy am I glad I put myself into years of financial debt to put myself through school to get one of these jobs that are being shipped overseas.

Oh wait that's right, I didn't. Whew.

Reports of deep job cuts at International Business Machines (IBM) come at a potentially delicate time for the company—just as it is hoping to secure money from the federal stimulus package. The company will lay off as many as 5,000 U.S. workers in its Global Business Services unit, transferring some of the work they performed to India, according to media reports.

So let me get this straight: IBM is cutting U.S. jobs, moving a lot of their work to India, and yet they want federal stimulus money? Is this a joke?

No more of a joke than AIG suing the Government for back taxes after being bailed out.

I'll be interested to see what Daemonguy has to say about this.

Me too. I was under the impression he's worried about his job after a comment he made awhile ago.

Well, so far so good. :)

A few people got tagged in my organization, just not I -- not yet anyway.

Totally glad to see you aren't affected - yet.
Totally disappointed that you didn't have an opinion on what they are doing. Or are you just reserving that?

I take it you aren't going to Wimbledon or Australia this year?

I am going, that part is still alive and well.

What we do is so radically different, I would like to think that puts us in a different category. I could be deluding myself, but I prefer to think positively.
