It's weird how many sites seem to have maintenance signs up at strange hours today. I've seen down for maintenance signs at places ranging from the Ubuntu forums, to the front pages of small hosting providers. The strange part is that I've been seeing them at strange times, like noon EST. :scratchhead:

Is there some sort of nasty-gram going around that have sites getting patched out of order or something ?
I know Microsoft has that conficker thing going around, but these sites all appear to be on Linux servers.

Sometimes, some fixes can't wait. When there is a flaw or serious bug, you want to patch it as soon as possible.
Sometimes, something goes terribly wrong at the worst time of the day, and you have no choice but go offline to fix things.
If a website goes offline during peak hours, you can expect that there is a compelling reason for doing so.

That's why I suggested the Holiday, at least for in the US, it provides a good opportunity for down time.
