Post 3+ Months Ago

I got myself a new computer a month ago and just now I downloaded and installed iTunes for my iPhone (I have like 3 albums that I have on CDs that I would like to put in my iPhone) but that's not the problem... yet.

I'm trying to update my iPhone software from version 4.1 to 4.2 and when I try to do that it tells me I have purchased items (music, apps) that I have on my iPhone that needs to be transferred to the iTunes library. I don't want to loose them but I can't figure out how to transfer those items to my iTunes library. I synced the device with the computer like 10 times and apprerantly that's not how to transfer items from the iPhone to iTunes.

Any help that I could get would be greatly appreciated. I bought like $500 worth of music and don't want to loose them (like I lost the files I had when I was updating from version 4.0 to 4.1... luckily I only spent like $10 on music then)... I had to re-buy the music I lost, and that's not to mention the photos I had on it and the apps (they allowed me to get the apps free).

Thanks you

In iTunes have you tried going to:

Store->Sign Out

and then Sign in with the same account that you used with your iphone? Once you sign in you may have to also goto:

Store->Authorize Computer

So that the computer you are using can be one of the computers authorized under that account. Let me know if that helps at all :)

I didn't find an option in the Store to Authorize COmputer, but I did right-click on my device's name in the left bar on iTunes and found the button that said "Transfer Purchases". When I clicked it asked me to authorize the computer and now it's all good.

Just one thing. How do I unauthorize one computer? I had a computer authorized with this iPhone but it's long gone and I only can authorize 5 computers max, this one is second... the first one is gone and I won't be able to use it to unauthorize it...
