A US Court of Appeals judge wants to ban linking to all newspaper articles and any other sites containing copyrighted materials unless the poster has obtained "the copyright holder’s consent". His aim is to save the industry, but his mind is apparently absent these days. Control over one of the basic elements that makes the web what it is? Not going to happen.

Yeah, that was my first thought too. I just don't see it happening though. Google's got a legal powerhouse to work on that one.

And thanks. ;)

Whoever voted him in should be ashamed of themselves. A rock would have been a better choice. More brains.

He does have a point though. It would probably be the only way to save the doomed print news industry.

In a decade or so, we'll be telling our kids to remember when we had news that came on paper, and everyday they printed a new one. (And they'll be too glued to the screen to listen as usual. :) )

I wonder who would actually enforce that. For every link to copyrighted material they actually manage to take off the internet, thousands more will have been created.

I'm all for killing off the print news industry in favor of the Internet. Do you realize how much some of the books, newspapers, magazines, etc would be worth in 20 years if print were to be killed off ?
