it's about time too

Legal action equals business as usual for Kazaa owner Sharman Networks, but even CEO Nikki Hemming was surprised when Australian music piracy investigators burst through the doors of Kazaa’s Cremorne offices in NSW armed with a court-sanctioned search warrant.

They are to blame for participating, but the company still set everything up for them. Both are equally responsible, not just the people or the company.

At least thats my opinion. Im sure someone will disagree! :)

ok, first off i would like to state that, yes i believe using kazaa is worng, and that you are in fact stealing form the artists...

HOWEVER, the ARIA should NEVER have been allowed to search the kazaa premises! i mean seriously! its one thing for the cops to bust in and search your house/business, its another thing entirely to have some random company (or association) that doesnt like what your doing, and as no legal right under the law to search ANYTHING to come in and tear your place of business apart!

I see where your coming from, and kinda agree. The company of Kazza was in the wrong, maybe they arent anymore, but they were and are therefore still suspectable. What concerns me is when this type of thing branches out to less suspectable companies. You will end up with everything under the control of one association that has all the power. We will then no longer have free business. Kinds stinks eh?

I'd much rather have the ARIA and RIAA busting down the doors of the Kazaa offices than doing what they normally do, trampling through the computer industry rewriting standards with no regards for how much it will cost other companies, let alone people's privacy

That court order is completely wrong IMO. THe only people who should be allowed to search andcopy/remove, are law enforcement agencies. That cour order is so far past F*****D its not even funny. I have stronger language but im trying to control myself. I use Kazaa, and as long as I like the song I usually end up gettign the CD, its a free frikin world and all of these major corps are taking control. Im a business owner so i can see thier mindset, but when the governent thats put in place to protect its people goes to the FRICKIN DOGS and starts allowing civilians to now carry out police search procedures, WTF is wrong with them???? YEs i am pissed, I think the warrent was completely ridiculous. SO Kazaa is going down, I can live with that, but when the governemnt is showing signs that they can give power whenever to whomever they wish and F*** everyone else, now we have major problems.

Sharkshark has a good point. I used to use Kazaa a lot, but have stopped in recent times because of the obvious dangers. I also feel that although its wrong to steal music, the RIAA is absorbing most of the funds from sales, not the artists, or the people working under the CEO's of Sony and other major recording studio/companies. If we allow the government to continue in its current state you can expect a Nazi like US in about 5 years.

I can see where your coming from, but I'd much rather the ARIA guys raided kazaa than the cops, that way its not my taxes being used to protect a private enterprise that should be spending its own money on protecting its copyright, not mine.

By the way, in a more recent article in the same magazine, it turns out that kazaa has since removed the signs off the front of its office.

I feel that kazaa is ripping off $$ from artists and music industry.
I stopped using kazaa ages ago after i realised that.
Can you imagine having to create your own music and having it ripped off by kazaa?

- you won't be getting as much $$ even if it on top 40s

Just as much as we wouldn't want our website's contents to be ripped off by others, the same thing goes for musicians out there..

If you believe in copyright for your website, I dont see why you should not agree to having kazaa booted.

Agree 100% People love to protect their rights whilst diminishing those of others, it's plain hipocricy, but most of us do it to some extent.

Piracy is called piracy because pirates were/are theives. It's theft. Plain and simple, you can justify it anyway you like but it is no different from walking out of the record store with an unpaid-for cd stuffed in you jacket. The physical disc costs about 20p (if that) the rest you pay is just for the data. So stealing from the store is only 20p different from dl.

Rat, c'mon - use some common sense - if someone has breakable windows on their house does that mean you have the right to break them and steal their stuff. It's rediculous. Plus the fact that if you can get an audio stream out of a cd then you can record that stream - there is no way of stopping people from copying it without making the CD unplayable

uzzo - no I don't use it and never have....

I used to use the same justification for Kazza that a lot of people used: "the music industry is getting most of the money anyways, and not the artists." Well, think about it. The artist still gets SOME of the money, even if it isnt as much as they deserve. When you download music, your stealing out of their pocket too, not just the "evil music industry." So if you dont like the music industry, fine. Send em a letter and complain, but dont hurt the artists too by stealing from them.
