lol

That'd almost be a form of communism...we all get the exact same 2byte space to store our signature...except youd have to loose the colors :-p

hrmmm
We could all still be fairly unique with 3x3 pixels.
Code: [ Select ]
ooo
ooo
ooo
  1. ooo
  2. ooo
  3. ooo

Even staying to true 256 colors, there would still be millions of combinations. Rock on uniqueness :)

b_heyer,
i have changed your sig a few times now, it seems to change to something else for no obvious reason every now and then.

One day I will write a sig changer like that.

That'd be impossible unless you could somehow code through the image (like those that detect your IP and stuff) then query a database.

what about cookies? couldn't I just write a script that placed/checked for a cookie on the users' system and chose which sig to give the user based on that?

Nope, because that'd have to be done on the forum. And you can't do htat kind of scripting in the forum.

i've seen cookies set and received through an image before. Here is how it would work

I woud have a script that allows the user to choose a sig and sets a cookie based on the sig chosen.

When the users's computer requests the sig (from my server) the cookie would be sent, and I would send back a redirect to the image file for the correct sig. I don't see why this wouldn't work.

You would have to be able to contain ALL the signature images into t one, and then send the chosen sig out, because you have to link to say "current.jpg" through the forum, so inorder to get "1.jpg" you need to send it out as "current.jpg".

couldn't i just put something like
Code: [ Select ]
<img src="http://server.com/script.cgi">
and use a redirect? Even if I can't I have some code that will open up the file and output it as script.cgi or whatever.
