new biblezines?

hi guys,
before I log off.
need good feedback about something i caught on tv.

"bible zines " for teenagers for sale in US.

Just wondering how popular this idea is and communities' response to this in US...

maybe i wasnt clear on that. seems like they have translated the new testament into "more readable" material for the teenagers.
magazine style. with music reviews and stuffs like that.

all in one mag.

caught a glimpse of some of these magazines names- revolve,

Ahhhh, I see what you mean. It's a good idea and bad idea...
good idea: then the kids can understand it, the bible was written a while and the vocabulary has changed, and it's pretty hard to read the bible the way it is.

bad idea: It's dumbing it down, and there is some things we probably shouldn't change. It's like you wouldn't take a really old painting from the renisence(sp?) and change it so younger kids know what's going on. It also makes you think what they are editing out/in and changing.

It sounds weird to me, mixing magazines and bible.. :?

ditto what tom the great said - making religion accesible to younger people is important because traditionally it's quite dull in the eyes of most kids. But it does depend how they do it. When I was young we used to learn from the "lion children's bible" which was key bible stories, written in an accessible way. It had pictures and stuff too.

Thing is it was still accurate and true to the original texts, the same story worded differently.

Done like that it can make a good stepping stone for younger children. Until they get too far from the original texts

Whoa, bible zines? Eh... I wouldn't go for it. I understand a children's picture bible, but a magazine now?? Oy...
