Old fashion open discussion... What happend to it???

I remember the day when ideas and topics on PUBLIC FORUMS were just that... open to the public to debate.

I would have expected christian values to dictate this...

I openly ask, do exploits / work arounds have a place on this board?

**Note I originally posed the question because of a comment class I was writing myself. I only continue to persue the issue now that i've been insulted.

you have not been insulted. You broke the rules of the forum and your thread got locked - happens to alot of people.

Work arounds are allowed here, but circumventing someone elses security features or abusing someone else's website is not the sort of thing that we encourage.

I would not want someone messing with my site, I would not help anyone do that to another webmaster.

As atno just told you, if you don't like the rules here there are plenty of other forums you can go to. Most of the members here appreciate the rules because they are well thought out and help to maintain a healthy community.

I actually don't think I could say it much better than that. Willy, there is no question in my mind that in the initial post, you did not identify upfront what your intent was about the links, because if you had, you knew your post would have been locked or removed from the getgo. Had you been upfront, you would have saved people the effort of trying to assist you.

Our posting rules clearly state that we do not permit that type of discussion. There is no place for it here.

well it was. Set a challenge without explaining fully the situation, not to mention the fact that it was an impossible challenge.

Obviously someone needs a new dictionary

You are not stupid, and your post is not stupid. What you did may not have wasted your time, but it wasted ours....just like this one is doing.

I also recommend you refresh your memory on the rules since by signing up for a handle you agreed to abide by them.

I'm not going to lock this topic Willy but I will say I'm done wasting my time in it. However, don't be too surprised if one of the other mods comes along and locks or removes it.

Here's some open discussion,

Ever since I read this,

If water bottles don't work, try rocks.

I've been wondering when somthing like this topic would happen, today after going through some of your posts finding things like,

I was curious on the spidering of forums with google...

I came across ozzu in june using google and found a threat. None of these forum categories have a PR though. I noticed that my website was never getting any searches to forum content...

I added the meta tag :

meta name="robots" content="index,follow"

Just curious

I knew exactly why you wanted to make a "link with no gt/lt signs" from the getgo, though SCRIPT tags are the biggest reason people ban the gt/lt signs rather than hrefs or imgs.

You should know by now that ATNO gives people the benefit of the doubt becouse after reading through some of your posts I also noticed you have been "moderated" a few times, & I think he is growing tired of moderating your topics/posts.

I feel you have NO RIGHT to complain about "feeling insulted" after some of the smart ass remarks you have posted in your time here.

Now the above added with a footer about squashing enemys helps to construct My Personal Opinion that you are arrogant, moralless, ignorant, and deserve little if any place in this community.

If it were up to me, you would have been gone right after the "If water bottles don't work, try rocks" comment.

Well, I guess that settles that, then. This topic is locked. In the future Willy, don't waste peoples time and efforts here to help when all you want to do is something as stupid as this.

I read this quote several times, and nowhere in it does ATNO call you
stupid. He did however, refer to the post as stupid, which I will also
agree that it is.

If a moderator locks or removes your topics or posts, you have to live
with it. And going back to the board 2 seperate times afterwards is not
the way to get your problems dealt with -- it's a way to get banned. If
you have a problem with what a moderator does or says, then you need
to PM Bigwebmaster and let him know about it. I assure you he is open
to any messages regarding the board and its moderators, and will take
the appropriate action. However, keep in mind, that the moderators that
are in place are there for a reason, for their level-headedness, and
decision making ability. Not only that, but with the ability to deal with
people and their antics. So you will probably not find any answers from
regarding what a moderator says in your favor. But the invitation is their
for anyone.

Unfortunately Willy, this board is not a democracy when it comes to
subject matter, or topics of choice. This board is on a public server but it
is run by a private enterprise. And with that private enterprise comes
rules that are enforced as we see fit. If you do not like those rules, you
do not have to post. If you choose to post, and we feel that the content
is inappropriate in any regard, then it is locked or removed.

This topic is now locked and the subject is off limits to prevent an
unecessary flamewar or escalated forum bashing. Please refrain from
bickering about our rules on the boards, or what a moderator has asked
you to do to follow those rules. We simply ask you to respect these rules
and the moderators that enforce them. As rtm223 said, we're just here
to maintain a happy, healthy community. Outbursts like this are not
tolerated, and you have to understand that. We run a friendly, open and
professional community here, and we want to keep it that way.

Any further posts by you on this subject will be removed and you could
face losing all of your posting priveleges compeletely. This is a last
resort, Willy, and not our first choice by any means. But please don't
make it our only choice.

Thanks to joebert and rtm223 for your comments and support.

Ahh see, now that's where you made your mistake. This site is not a public free-for-all. Like Unflux says, this is a privately owned & operated system. Being able to post here, or even read here is a privilege, not a right.

In order to keep the privilege, you need to abide by the rules of the site.

If you wish to discuss the circumvention of somebody's security measures on their website to prevent spam, and other such stupid, and potentially illegal, subjects (yes, I said stupid), then you can do so elsewhere.
