Wow!

Just heard on the news that London has been announced as the city that will host the Olympic Games in 2012! They win despite Paris being the favourites for most of the competition!

I hear that they're putting their own slant on the track races by making the athletes pay a congestion charge half way through each race!

Seriously though, good news for London!

Congrats, London!
I'm sure it's gonna be some great games...

and i'm sorry if it's gonna be a mess, but i'm very happy it's not going to be in NYC
(and more than a little disappointed our gov't here wasted so much money on ad campaigns, etc. etc...)

I was well pleased when i heard them announce it live on talk sport.

Everybody had high hopes, but paris were odds on favorite so london didnt really expect to get it...

We have 7 years to build it all now lol.

These bombings will have made the IOC think about their decision, but they were very quick in replying to the speculation that it might be moved to Paris by announcing...

Quote:
Security is one of the 17 themes of evaluating the Olympics and we have full confidence in the London authorities for a secure Olympic Games,"

Obviously, if there are a series of bombings in London in the years to come then there will be some speculation as to whether the games would be held there. Somehow i have my doubts that they will pull out of their decision though.
