Osama Bin Laden has finally been killed! Took about ten years, far too long in my opinion. They had previously thought that Bin Laden was hiding out among tribal groups in the mountainous regions in Pakistan or Afghanistan, but he turned out at the end to be living in a mansion in Abbottabad, Pakistan, which is 93 miles north of Islamabad. From my understanding a small team went in and Bin Laden was shot in the head. DNA from Bin Laden's body, compared with DNA samples on record from his dead sister, confirmed Bin Laden's identity.

Bush was so smart not letting that happen during his term, if it's true. It would have ruined his business relationship with his oil buddies & he knew it. So, he pushed Osama into the hills, to get him out of the way & it worked. Bush couldn't make a decent speech but he was smart enough to do that.

Took way too long. Probably not becoming to be happy that somebody died, but in this case -- three cheers for the peeps that killed him!

It's been so long, I wouldn't be surprised if 25% of the people I hear talk about this today hear it wrong and think Obama was killed.

It's just a shame that so many Americans had to die for this one idiot to be finally killed.

Mad props to Seal Team 6.

No, cheers for America. America trained him in the first place. Don't forget that!

He may be dead but the war is far from over. This one man may be dead but there are still many followers and a lot of angry people. even with him dead USA will still not return home as there is too much money to protect which was the reason in the first place. this was a delayed death with rubble in it's path.

I'm not much for arguing politics, but I'm also not sure this is true. Too many things don't make sense:

"In Islam, the body has to be buried in 24 hours". And so to avoid conflict, they buried him within 24 hours.

However, according to muslim Shari Law:
"Sea burials are permissible for Muslims in extraordinary circumstances...", "...one is during a long voyage where the body may decompose and pose a health hazard to a ship's passengers".

These two facts defeat each other. Also, logic dictates that regardless of how one treats an extremist dead leader, it won't matter to those who follow that leader whether you treat their body with respect. The followers will either fight harder, or give up. It's impossible for the enemy to convince said followers not to be enraged that their leader was killed by their enemy.

Another point, (this one isn't nearly as strong as the above, so I'm not firm on it) Osama had kidney failure and was on dialysis...11 YEARS AGO.

Average life expectancy for kidney failure WITH dialysis is 5 years.

Personally, I think he's been dead for a while. Still killed by our men, but several years ago. I just find it sort of convenient timing what with re-elections around the corner.

Okay, I'll get off my conspiracy-theorist soap box now.

Do you think America was actually going to follow their burial laws?

Don, that's precisely my point. No they wouldn't, but what the government officials are saying is that they semi-followed the burial laws, which makes no sense. Also, they've decided they won't be posting any pictures. No pictures, an extremely small portion of people supposedly knew about the operation, all but the president and head of CIA being ones who's names have been released, a burial in an area where there's no chance of excavation. Basically they've said "we killed him, but we're not going to show any proof - and in fact hide all evidence that it happened".

Just what this country needs is more conspiracy theories.

That's ok. I don't want any pictures of the operation. I didn't read any articles or watch any reports. They should stop showing pictures of WWII, as well.

Most Americans are happy. They always like to see someone get killed. It doesn't matter who it is, a black, a jew, a muslim...it doesn't matter, as long as someone was killed, they feel good.

"Paranoia is just another word for ignorance." Hunter S Thompson. Why can people not just enjoy the moment and trust that he is dead? You're taking an extraordinary achievement and *peach* it up for everyone by doubting that he is dead with your whacko conspiracy theories. I also do want to see a picture of the body, but only because on 9/11 every tv station was broadcasting pictures of people jumping to their death out of the World Trade Center. Last night Jon Stewart said it best too, there is no need to keep them from us because they are "gruesome" because we see pictures of dead bodies every day when we watch the news and see reports of car bombs and stuff, and how can we truly know the horrors of war if we don't see it.

I gotta give props to the SEAL team that did this too. In only 40 minutes they went into the compound and clear it, killed Bin Laden and recovered his body (and probably the other bodies as well), interrogated the other people there and made arrests, collected a butt load of intelligence, and dealt with a crashed helicopter...all with zero casualties of their own and virtually no collateral damage. In 40 minutes! Thats pretty damn impressive.
Like Mr Spork, I also write about my interest in alcoholic beverages.
