I was just wondering how many of you have poker evenings or things like that ... and then if you have buy ins etc? which rules do you play?

We have a lot of them ... in the beginning we used a box of smarties as a buy-in, so we used them as chips and then the winner gets them all and eats a lot of smarties in the week to come ... but these days we just ask a R20 buy-in and then we have a R20 re-buy for the first hour where you get 75% of the chips you got the first time ... and we always play texas holdem because with 5 card draw it';s too easy to cheat ... and my friends love cheating lol ...

Wow I've never heard of a buy-in gradually decreasing in worth before. I wouldn't be cool with that.

I haven't played cards in months, nobody ever has a buy-in all at the same time when we think to play. lol

I've started playing online poker with a pal. We both enter the same 1-table sit&go tourney wearing headphones then try and bully our way thru until we're the only ones left.

Not nice, definitely cheating but hey hum  We only play in the $2 tourney's and it's good fun.

Also, at our casinos you can't play normal poker against other people, you only get these 1 on 1 tables against the dealer and quite frankly I don't trust casino dealers at all ...

I've never played real people in person. I play a ton of online poker. Primarily Hold Em no limit, Freeroll tourneys, and Omaha 8/b. I mostly play at ultimatebet.com (free chips - never real money). If you play there look up 2Kewl and say hello. That's me.

I played a bit of Texas Hold Em when i was in Australia. The games i played usually had a $20 buy in. First game i played against someone i was knocked out almost immediately. The second game out of 12 people i finished 3rd which was pretty cool.

I played a game of Texas Hold Em in my Hostel in New Zealand. We played with Monopoly money which i ended up winning. There was about 8 of us playing, so to finish as the winner on my 3rd face to face game i was pretty impressed.

It's better when there is more than two people playing. I've played a two person game quite recently and it's just boring. You pick up there habits too easy and it takes away from the excitement. Money is also worth playing for. Texas Hold Em is pointless without money.

We have monthly poker nights here with my cigar friends -- texas Hold'em. Normally it's a $20 buy in and when we're done we figure out the chip count and divide the money. Sometimes we play tournament style; last man or woman standing gets the cash.

I had to stop playing there when I switched to Linux because they don't have a Linux version of the software and their Windows version doesn't want to run in Wine. :(

We're not a fan of poker here...

Maybe they have a different name or version about a Poker, named differently, or Maybe I don't know anything.

A friend of a friend has recently decided to take up poker playing professionally. i think he's insane. although i have to admit i know a guy whose only means of income is texas hold 'em online. he plays up to 14 tables simultaneously...

Yeah Celandine I knew a guy similar to that who for like 6 months played online poker with a ton of tables simultaneous and lived off of that for a while.

I play poker occasionally with friends probably once a month or two. Used to play online but ended up quitting after a while.

As does Poker Stars.
I've grown to appreciate their 3 buyins per-hour on the free tables rule.
