There are proxies for different protocols. Are you asking about a proxy for HTTP?

Advantages are that these are pretty easy to use and requires no configuration, but these type of proxies have their fair share of disadvantages. There are certain security risks involved, some sites don't allow scripts to run and limit the download limit and most of the webproxies can't stream videos.

thanks

I didn't want to have to go through each protocol, so we'll take HTTP proxy. It offers some surfing anonymity depending on the logs kept by the proxy. If law enforcement owns the proxy, there is no anonymity.

Surfing can be slower than normal, especially if you chain proxies.

Proxy sites are a pain in the butt as far as I'm concerned. I work in a public school and I block things like youtube and break.com and stuff that kids go to on the internet so that they won't be tempted to goof off instead of do school work. But they know that by going to a proxy they can get to stuff that I deny and they take advantage of it. Usually about once or twice a week I have to either add a proxy to my black list, and I am trying to figure out a regular expression that will block any proxy they try including ones I haven't black listed.
