Um... are you asking

a) "I was wondering how each of you go about creating a website"

OR

b) "I'm completely new to the whole website making thing, how do I get started learning?"

okay....

There are a lot of technologies used to create websites.

Start with some HTML, as this is the core of building sites. Then learn some CSS.

Both of these are quite simple to get used to, and you don't need any programming experience as they aren't programming languages. I managed to get to a decent start on these in less than a week.

Next step is to learn some programming for the internet, and for this your best bet is javascript, then PHP. But don't worry about those just yet.

Arguably the best resource for learning is

http://www.w3schools.com
just click on the "learn html" link and follow through the tutorials :)

They have excellent tutorials and they also teach you "good practise", an extremely underrated thing in the world of web design.

The wonderful thing is you don't need to buy anything :) you've got a web browser for testing stuff you've made, and all you need to make the sites is a text editor (notepad!).

Plus, stick around here for a while, there are other newbies like youself, some really advanced experts and everyone in between! Plus everyone is really helpful! :D

Good luck!

BTW: if you are going to start now, I'll be around for the next 4-5 hours or so, so just post on this thread, make a new thread or pm me and I'll do what I can to help you out.

I would say not. If you learn to use a WYSIWYG editor like that you will always be restricted. It will be a easier, but I think you will gain more from it by learning to do it by hand.

The best analogy I can think of is using the wysiwyg is kind of like telling someone else roughly what you want, and then letting them actually do it. This makes me feel restricted and not in control.

Its a personal preference though. If the above analogy sounds better to you then go for it.

for the internet? Most people use flash (built with macromedia flash) or shockwave (macromedia director). I don't make that sort of thing though!
