The rising number of female doctors is "bad for medicine", and universities should recruit more men, a GP warns.

I was reading an article on this and It suggests that we should have more male doctors as female doctors are more likely to work part time.

I dont think this is true, And Many people seem to think this is sexism....

Would you say this is based on facts or is kind of sexism?

It suggests that this could cause less doctors at work in the long run, If we continue to hire Female GP's.

My fiance is a nurse, and only plans on working part time.
All her doctors are nurses (she's got like 3) and knows a bunch of friends who are nurses and are doctors, and they frequently have time off for maternity leave. I'm not saying it's sexist, but it's human nature.

The reason (that I believe) for the idea that female doctors are more prone to working part time is if they start a family, its more than likely they are the one to take a break from the work force to raise the family, once their children have grown up a bit, a mother might join back up into the work force but part time, so that they can be with their children in the afternoons when they get back from school.

Exactly. It's not that it's a masculine society - it's that most woman who pursue a profession in medicine are nurturing by instinct, meaning they probably want a family and will probably want to nurture their own offspring.

GP has a point there. Women by nature are more emotional. I'm not saying all. They could feel it's hard to make certain decisions at some level of a patients' crisis.

And some patients need full-time medical care. And most likely, a male doctor is able to provide that.
