Post 3+ Months Ago

So as not to detract from the topic of the Wolverine post, I decided to start a new one on Mr. Holmes.

For those who never had the pleasure of reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most excellent writings, here is the death and return of Sherlock Holmes:

The Final Problem (from The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes):

The Adventure of the Empty House (from The Return of Sherlock Holmes)

To my absolute amazement, the entire "Complete Sherlock Holmes" is online. Would make some great holiday reading for those who never had the chance to read one of the great authors. The whole series is here:

This article gives the reasoning behind Doyle's desire to kill off holmes and the public outcry that brought him back.

The reasons are as I remember, but I am certain that he did not reappear in The Hounds of the Baskervilles as the article suggests. He reappeared in the Adventure of the Empty House. There is a good likelihood that the "Hounds of the Bakservilles" was relesead in the Strand magazine prior to the actual return.

And to answer B_heyer's question from the prior thread. Holmes was published as short stories in the Strand Magazine.
