is Site Bandit a hacking tool? or champion of the webmaster?

  •
    Definitely a hacking tool.
  •
Its not hacking if client is ripping you off.
  •
    Not sure.
  •
It's ok if you disclose it to client

So is Site Bandit a hacking tool or not?

Me and my little band of programmers have created a new tool designed specifically for webmasters / programmers etc. It's called the Site Bandit and basically it allows you to re-access a clients website to reclaim your work....even if they have changed passwords (hosting, FTP, PHP MySQL etc) to lock you out....(it happens).

Of course the more careful of you that only work on your own servers until paid (recommended) are thinking “whats the point” but what about when the work is paid for and handed over...the check bounces or the dreaded "credit card CHARGE BACK.

Well Site Bandit tips the balance back in your favor.

The reason for this post is to ask...are we encouraging hacking? or helping the web community stop getting ripped off?
Our lawyer says we are doing nothing illegal with the tool, but i was curious want web professionals thought.

Thanks for your time

I get a nefarious feeling from it overall. I don't like seeing the word "bandit" in the name, that word suggests that it behaves like an outlaw.

How does it work, is it basically a "framework" style root kit for websites?

The bandit name is simply a marketing thing.

As far as the mechanics of our tool, without going into major detail, think along the lines of the cpanel back up and restore feature...but with more options and the ability to delete after a back up is made. The main difference is that its accessible via a browser.
