PRESS RELEASE: Letter from Steve Jobs

August 24, 2011–To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

I'm guessing health-related reasons. Love or hate Apple, he's led the company to do some pretty amazing things, and I'm sad to see this happen.

Without a doubt one of the least surprising things i've heard. It was a long time coming, and as much as it pains to see him no longer leading Apple i hope he continues to play a positive role in the companies future for many more years yet.

I'm glad that he played a role in appointing the person of his choice as a successor. It speaks a lot for this transition in that he's stepping down on great terms and still very much respected... I also feel that if Jobs believes Tim Cook will do well, he probably will.

I'm quite surprised but it's a great thing that he has a say on who will replace him as the CEO of Apple.

Quite surprising considering the revenue Apple has been generating recently and the way they have been leading the computer field lately.

I have to agree. This was a matter of 'when', not 'if'.

I hope that he's just scaling back career demands on his life in light of previous health issues and not because the health issues are now forcing him to cut back.

I think a lot of people would have never gone back full swing the way he did after something like that.

When you do something you love and been part of that growth then money means absolutely nothing. I doubt he ever wakes up in the morning and shouts "I'm rich!".

I wonder if Apple will start supporting flash now that he isn't the big boss any more.

Not many can do what Steve Jobs did with all the buzz and quality that Apple has got so famous for under his period. The guy is just interesting to watch.

Good luck to Tim Cook - replacing Steve Jobs can't be a easy task!

My daughter's exact words were: "I think I've died a little inside. Lol.
Damn you apple!"
