on my server I have added a new user that can map a folder within a username and a password.
on that particular folder can i add another folder and assigned it with a different password.

the reason is that too many people as assigned to that folder, and i want to add a subfolder and not to be accessed by any one.

How can i do it?

Thanks.

What Axe means, is that you can use an .htaccess file to password protect your subfolders.

I have tried first to create .htaccess file under my server but it doesn't work, it keeps adding the .txt at the end.

i got the error saying that i must name the file first.

and when i tried to do the same thing under winXP it works fine. any support.

why i cant name the file .htaccess under 2003 server?

because heaven forbid you have a just extension file. Stupid MS. You'll have to find a way to rename it after it's saved. Some ftp clients work great for this.

Guys -I keep telling you, you can't use .htaccess on a Windows 2003 server.

Bluehat. You need to just experiment with the permissions on the folders until you find the combination you want. Don't forget to block inheritance from the parent folders on the folders you want to deny access too. Double check each user that is assigned rights to a folder and make sure your allow and deny is set the way you want it.

If this is in the .NET framework, I believe you might want to check out the web.config files. They can be used to set application level settings in the root and sub-folders respectively.
