 how did you come across this story?

If that's what he needs to do to keep himself safe then so be it. Not sure if the 400 pound fine was really relevant though.

Isn't a gobstopper a jawbreaker? Does it really break jaws in the UK?

[EDIT:] Got my definition from Google.

Yeah that's it ... but put it inside a sock and you could do serious damage I presume ... But to be honest, I'd rather tell my friends and family: "Yeah, he came up to me with a baseball bat and took my money and my phone", instead of: "Yeah, he came up to me with a jawbreaker and a sock and took my money and my phone" ...
Let's leave all our *plum* where it is and go live in the jungle ...

hahahaha sometimes I wonder how come this planet is still running as well as it is, what with all the mad people....

one thing though - you can't really get a pool ball-sized gobstopper into your mouth. and it's not the kind of thing you can nibble on. so i'd say this confectionery (which they misspelled :D) was perhaps manufactured as a weapon rather than a dessert........??

They really do mak them that big, but they're meant to be more of a novelty than real candy. Me and my sister use to get them then break them into little chunks with a hammer and suck on the pieces.
