Piss off as many people as you can in the shortest amount of time possible.

Seriously.

You have 4 groups of people,

  1. Those who will naturally draw attention to you via praise
  2. Those who will naturally draw attention to you via gripes
  3. Bird Brains
  4. Limbolians

Now the behavior of groups A & B is obvious & their size is genrally equal in relation to eachother.
Group C is easily impressionable, listen to whichever of groups A or B is speaking, & could go any way on a given day.

The behavior of groups A, B, & C is generally out of your control though, no matter what you do they will always be the way they are towards whatever you have or stand for.

Group D however tends to keep its' distance & tries to stay out away from influencing others, at least that is until you piss them off. If this group feels that you've done them wrong will go out of their way to let everybody know about it, thus attracting attention to you.

So here's what happens when you piss everyone off.

Group A thinks about why they approved of you in the first place & waits for you to make things right.
Group B steps up the rate at which they let everyone know they were right about you, thus generating more attention.
Group C continues to echo whatever the person they just talked to said.
Group D comes out of limbo and generates an attention greater than zero.

So you see, there's alot of good to be had from pissing everyone off. Doing so in the shortest mount of time possible reduces the amount of damages you can do & means it will take less time to make things right. :D

I'll probably look at it later and wonder what the hell I was talking about, but this is what happens when you jump out of the shower to jot down shower thoughts. :D

Made sense to me, but it's probably because I was a retail manager for 17 years and also did rather well in logic in college. Of course the logic in joebert's theory sucks, but it's an interesting concept none-the-less.

We had a rule in sales that follows the same line of thought, but it works better. 10% of the people will buy all of the time, 10% of the people will never buy and the remaining 80% can be persuaded.

It's known as the 10-80-10 selling rule

Sounds to me a little like the old "there's no such thing as bad press" theory...

That's probably what I was thinking of.

I did sales for one day when I was about 20 and was soo terrible at it I frustrated the lady I was paired with to the point of backing her car into a pole. lol

Joe made sense. The more we try to impress, the more people feel we're up for something.

So just knock them off as soon as you can.

I suppose that could be effective to an extent. After all, I'm sure they'll remember you 9 months down the road...

Bad press does work. I came up with these Google PPC ads for a client trying to target women looking for nutritional and fitness supplements...

Got a lot of complaints :-/

 That's great. I've definately seen some ugly babies.

I'm curious whether the bottom line outweighed the complaints on those. :D

We didn't get enough data...complaints came in the same day...so no sales, but plenty of exposure...they made me drop it that day.
