You mean a millionaire geek server farm. The average geek will never have that.

That's some serious equipment. I remember when I was a kid the lady across the alley would just hand me a hatchet and tell me to have a field day with the stump in the back yard when my parents were away.

I can recall visiting my grandparents and playing with yard darts unsupervised for hours on end.

I believe they were called "lawn darts"* and my friend's dad use to egg us on while we played catch with them. He was also found of holding people literally half his size underwater until they spasmed, forced marches thru the woods in subzero feet of snow, and coming out on the porch periodically on a Saturday to yell "MILLER TIME" real loud.

For some reason, it all seems very idyllic to me now.

I imagine it's a regional or perhaps even branding sort of thing, but I was correct in what we referred to them as. Like you, though, I always ended up playing catch with them. Much more fun to hurl them at a relative than aim for a little circle.

Over a 10 year period hospitals over the country: 3 children died from lawn darts.

Versus:

Quote:
"CPSC analyzed the 88 reports it received of baseball-related deaths of children between 1973 and 1995. It found that 68 of the deaths were caused by ball impact and 13 were caused by bat impact. Of the 68 ball impact deaths, 38 resulted from blows to the chest while 21 deaths were caused by a ball hitting a player's head."

I will go to the senate and get baseball banned, because if ~6 deaths in 20 years average can ban lawn darts, ~88 in 20 years should ban baseball!

While I don't have quite that many servers, I am about to have over 800TB (16x48TB SANs plus 3 other 16TB SANs I already have) of storage to manage  . I will be hiring an assistant here soon, either that or I will never leave this place.

These big data centers always make my puny little 6 servers with less than 3TB of storage kind of embarrassing.
