Did i at least did the installation right? For Network Domain. I put localhost. For server name. I put localhost. For my e-mail address. I put my e-mail. Is that correct so far for the Network Domain and the server name? If that is not correct. What should i put? What would be my next step? I read them instructions and they look like they are for all advance users. Is there any step by step instructions? I mean i was searching for ever and most likely. I'm not done searching until i find what i need. Bigwebmaster, Can you view everything on my computer and help me? So if i see what you are doing. The next time i can do it on my own.

SeverType-I cannot find that in the httpd.conf file. I went to edit and then find. I searched for ServerType.

Look harder. It should be there. Usually its towards the top of the httpd.conf file. The default setting for ServerType is usually fine. You do not need to change that anyway.

Download PHP for Windows at http://www.php.net/downloads.php. Extract the files into a directory called "\php4win." Make a directory to store PHP development files, "\phpdev". This is where your PHP files will reside. Rename the file ":\php4win\php.ini-dist" to "php.ini". Open this php.ini file and change the doc_root (\php4win) and extension_dir (\phpdev) lines so that they are set to the appropriate directories. Move the two files php.ini and php4ts.dll to the ":\windows" directory. If you haven't already, make sure you delete the php.ini

Edit the httpd.conf file in the "/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/Conf" directory. Then search for the "DocumentRoot" and "" lines and change them so they are set to ":\php4win". Find the line "AddType application/x-tar .tgz" and add the following after it:

ScriptAlias /php4/ "d:/phpdev/"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php3
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php4
Action application/x-httpd-php "/php4/php.exe"

You can now test PHP on Apache by putting web pages in ":/phpdev" and accessing from a browser at "http://localhost".

Can you please help me? I installed PHP. I don't understand what they are doing. Can you give me a little more detail? Thanks.

They are already pretty clear there. Just do one thing at a time. Is there a certain sentence you do not understand?

So what do you not understand in those paragraphs man? Be SPECIFIC, because they are very clear in those paragraphs.

Do you understand this first sentence?

"Download PHP for Windows at http://www.php.net/downloads.php"

I'm going to need help with the next part. I think i did the first part right. I will assume i did. If i didn't. oh well shoot me. It might show up later that i screwed up. let's move on.

Why are you so determined to add PHP again? You do not need that to get Apache to work, and I doubt you will even use PHP.

ok... Let's forget about PHP and MySQL. Do i have to edit the httpd.conf file to get Apache to work? If i do. What do i have to edit and what do i have to change? What do i change it to? Apache is already installed on my computer. I need it to work so i can upload and hotlink. When i upload. What website does it go to for someone to download off of my server?

look for where it says Document root

that is where your files will be located that will display on your server when someone goes to your apache ip address. you can change that to anywhere you want your files to be seen... for example you could change it to c:\ and that would make your c drive your document root...

just try it and then go to your ip address, and youll see what im talking about...

You are not going to be able to hotlink from running Apache on your home computer. You are on dialup and your IP always changes and it just will not work.

What would happen if i try to do it? Would i get cut off in the middle of the hotlink? I'm thinking about trying to hotlink. I just might upload with a dial up too. I don't care how slow my modem. I download these big Operating Systems with a dial up.
