that depends on the density of the planet. If it is a large planet, say the size of jupiter, you would have to shoot at a short distance. If it was the size of mercury, you could shoot accurately much further and the velocity of the bullet would not slow as much.

Now if you shot in space, the bullet would travel at the maximum velocity till gravity from some large object pulled it into its orbit.

Jupiter would be difficult considering it is made of gas. Mercury would suck because it is extremely hot there. Iraq has nothing on Mercury. Plus just because Jupiter is large does not mean it has more density. Sorry, I'm kind of a space nerd.

there is no terminal velocity in space... it would continue with the velocity it was fired with untill it gets gravitated toward an object

We don't want to win the war with the Pongs, we just want it to stretch on for a looong loong time. Perhaps we could arrange a sort of a cold war, like the American/Russian one. So we are all so scared of the Pongs that we get all together and big technological advances and stuff, but not too many people die. And it never ends. Because as soon as you actually win a war the country always goes to hell.

The Pongs? We're on the side of the Pings in this particular war example I guess?

What exactly are "Pongs"? People who smell?

Guns we use today, hmmmmm. We still use the tried and true M16A2 service rifle. Some units use M4 carbines. M2 .50cal machine gun, M249G Squad Automatic Weapon, M240 machine gun, M198 Howitzer, M1A1/A2 battle tank, Light Armored Vehicles, Amphibious Assault Vehicles, M9 9mm Pistol, TOW II guided missile system, the JAVELIN guided missile system, several jets with an assortment of missiles, the list goes on and on. Hope that answers your questions some.

I read plenty. I just have better things to do with my time than learn about fictional alien races. I'd rather further my knowledge of something a little more realistic that actually helps me improve my abilities. Try it sometime, it's good for you.
