I'd probably get bored if I never slept. Sleep is good for adjusting my train of thought, if not for resting my body.

I don't like to make medium-long term decisions without sleeping first.

No sleep? Hmmm.

On the upside, I'd have 4 extra rooms in my house. No need for beds, mattresses, sheets, comforters, pajamas, alarm clocks, etc.

On the downside, the world probably wouldn't use the extra time for anything useful. We'd all just watch more Idle American, send more meaningless texts (...and other useless things our phones do) and find more reasons not to get our work done. I'm not sure how Christmas morning would work.

Yeah, all in all, I don't like this plan. :P

I wonder what would happen to the worlds energy usage if nobody ever slept. It could put the phrase "Burning the midnight oil" into perspective.

I think energy usage would double, because people would still want to do the things they do during the day, so they'ld fire up a bunch of lights so they could see.

Living without sleep seems unnatural. When you think about it, sleeping and being awake and repeating is not much more different of a cycle than breathing or the changing of the seasons. We would be artificial machines without sleep.

Sleep is a natural process. No one can live without sleep. It maintain the balance in our body. "Early to bed and early to rise...Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise."

I think we all know that nobody can live without sleep guys. It's hypothetical. Pretend it's possible. What would you do with all that extra time?

I think it would triple. Since during the day we use less energy on lights than we do at night. But at night, we (normally) have them off. So if everyone turned on all their lights at night, as well as their computers/machinery, we would see three-fold increase in energy.

But no traffic jams, as there would not be a 9-5 regime, as work schedules could be 12-12 in shifts or 6am to 12pm etc whatever the company chooses.

I did hear of a guy that litteraly doesn't sleep. He got sick or something or had a brain tumor removed and hasn't slept or even felt tired for the last 20 years. There was a news spot on him.

We would probably have more wars, more things to get mad at, politicians have more thinking time with potential to create worse stuff...

Things could be positive too... inventors have more time to invent things... people could be more productive. digitalMedia's reply is probably more realistic.

I'd wait for the political rallies to start up:

"SLEEP = GOD'S GIVE OF PEACE"

"AWAKE-ISM = SOCIALISM!"

"RESTORE TRADITIONAL RESTING VALUES!"

"LESS GOVERNMENT, MORE SLEEP!"

Sleep is a state that accentuates the growth and rejuvenation of the immune, nervous, skeletal and muscular systems, so let’s sleep as long as we want:-)
