I would recommend Pro over Home for one reason only...Home won't network into Corporate networks...Pro will. That's roughly the only major difference. As far as hardware, I haven't researched any of the current stuff for laptops lately. I'll leave that part for others.

As far as deciding if you want to go with Windows XP Home or Windows XP Pro, see this post:

http://www.ozzu.com/viewtopic.php?t=537

It discusses the difference in more detail between the two which might help you figure out exactly which one is right for you. One of the major differences is what ATNO/TW already mentioned.

Computers are all about personal opinion, laptops are a lot less customizable the computers, so find some laptops that you might like and post links here, then we could post which one is a deal for the money.

with computers, it's like a car: you get what you pay for. The more $
you spend, the better machine you will get.

nah not necisarrily true, my computer cost about 500 or so less then its actual value if you were to buy it from a prebuilt site like dell or what not. But its also better then any of those, window, blue lights, cool stuffl ike that...lemme find a picture of it.

i wasn't saying anything about desktops, since he said he wanted to get
a laptop my answer was directed in that way. and for $2500, he can get
pretty much what he needs/wants in a laptop.

As far as your pc, what do pretty lights have to do with being a good
machine or not? I wasn't saying to build your own was a dumb idea or
that it wouldn't be cheaper. I simply stated that you had to pay for it to
get what you want. I was clearly talking about prebuilts. Nowhere did
he mention or ask about building his own.
