Jazz most of the day at work on internet radio. If I'm out I prefer Country. When I'm playing guitar or home alone it's rock guitar (ie. Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson and the likes). I love music period and can handle anything except perhaps Opera and Rap (and there's even a couple Rap artists I can deal with -- Opera is completely off my list). I'm also a HUGE Stevie Ray Vaughn fan and love Blues.

I mostly listen to classic rock: Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Lyndard Skynard, the Doors, and Bad Company to name a few.

As for "newer" stuff, I like Blue Man Group and Flogging Molly (an Irish punk rock band :D ).

You like Bold as Love eh? :)

Check out the instrumental version on the Jimi Hendrex Experience box set. Its chock full of unreleased material.

Who is Trey Anastasio?

There's lots of other musicians I skipped; not wanting to post an enormous message.

Cheers

He plays in a band called Phish. Hendrix and all the others are MAINSTREAM in comparisson to his talents. I'd loan you a few CDs if you lived in Japan. Phish has been in existance for 20 years and is one of the most popular Jam Bands in America. They defined the "Jam Band" genre.

Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton have mainstream talent? Either way, I'll check out Trey Anastasio. Thanks for the tip.

The way all guitarists worship S.R.Vaugn, Clapton, Buddy Guy, you'd THINK they WERE mainstream! That's my point. They're definitely not, but in comparisson they are. You know, there are certain levels to music. For instance, Brittney Spears is absolutely pop (as Morning Musume is in Japan). The Cardigans are pop, but they've got at least a little rock talent. Go up a few (er, many) notches and you get to bands like Zeppelin. A lot of rock talent, but sloppy guitar work. Take it up a notch and you have Hendrix. Less sloppy guitar work, better lyrics (He's a great poet--especially in Bold as Love). Head a little further north and you get to Trey. Absolute perfection in terms of guitar work and good lyrics. Phish's lyrics don't come near Hendrix's, but Trey's guitarwork is Amazing. He's like a force of nature, and I don't mean it in a Steve Vai or Joe Satriani type. Vai and Satriani are like guitar gymnasts. They can do ANYTHING on the guitar, but they suck in terms of popular appeal and lyric writing. Phish, IMHO, is a perfect balance. If only they had Hendrix as a lyricist.

If you're going to try to get into Phish, get their album Hoist first and their live album PHISH Live next. Their music is a bit difficult to get into, but once you're in you're stuck.

And one of the greatest things about Phish is that they're still in their prime! They've been selling-out arenas for over two decades now, and they still keep it fresh! Maybe because they don't use set-lists when they play gigs. Every concert is so completely different from the other.

If you give phish a hear and don't like it much, that's alright. Plenty of people hate them. But don't just give them one listen and then say it's rubbish. Good music takes time to grow on the listener. In fact, the only music that seems to have an instant appeal on people is pop, and that's because it's like candy. Brain candy. Bah!
