Philadelphia, Pennslyvania.

Does it look like Philadelphia or did you just google the area code?

I ask because this is not a photograph of Philadelphia.

The photograph was taken earlier on today in Glasgow, Scotland. The city centre has been transformed to look like Philadelphia for a hollywood movie starring Brad Pitt called "World War Z".

To give you an idea of the scale of all the changes, here is what Glasgow City Centre looks like normally...

So, the signage all had to be changed. Shop fronts had to be changed as well as all the traffic. We don't have yellow cabs nor do we have these blue trash things you seem to have in USA.

I just don't understand why they went to all the expense. Why not film it in Philadelphia?

Looked at area code, realized it was PA. Looked at the building, tried to locate the building but couldn't. Guess that's why haha. It does look like a Philly building tho.

I am sure it has something to do with taxes and being able to do it cheaper there. A lot of movies set in America are filmed elsewhere for that reason. People are too greedy here in America and the cost of making a movie would be astronomical.

I did think about this as a reason, but how can it be cheaper filming it in the UK with the £ is as strong as it is. You've also got to imagine the cost of having the cast and crew flown to Glasgow and booked into hotels in the city as well as any locals they have recruited (as i believe there has been many). Not to mention the importing of the vehicles, going by the photographs i've seen there are a good amount of vehicles. The cost of closing off and changing the centre of Glasgow...especially during the summer.

It can't have been cheap.

I doubt it is cheap but cheaper than doing it in Philly I bet.

Win.

You would think they could film in Canada for less expense and for the tax credit.
Like Mr Spork, I also write about my interest in alcoholic beverages.

One of the things i did read was how Glasgow has a similar grid system to what Philadelphia has, so i think this may have been one of the reasons.

It's great for the local economy, even more so if this movie is a big hit which is quite likely with Brad Pitt starring in it.

I love the whole Facebook thing where if a big thing hits the news there is a group with a funny title created because of it. One created yesterday on the back of the news that Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and their 6 children were in Glasgow yesterday was called "Hiding your kids cos Brad and Angelina don't have a scottish one yet"
