People offering webspace to artists, or looking for some one who offers such space, why are these generious threads always locked? Seems people would want to use these services and if you can't reply it will fall off the list quickly...

Is it a rule with advertising? Seems like they could get around that by posting their site in the "reviews" forum with their offer posted all over their site, so that's a form of advertising anyway. Matter of fact, my personal site NEVER registered with Google for over a year until I posted it here, because it never received enough hits, now I get more hits than I know what to do with, and even a moderate search will bring up my band's site, and the band hasn't done anything in over two months. Talk about advertising!

Seems silly to block those trying to help...? But, maybe I'm missing something...?

We've promoted a place for professionals, and with the rules in place for
posting your own site for review, it helps others stay honest and help
people in true form. It prevents people from only wanting help for
themselves.

Also, one of the factors involved is whether or not they have been
around OZZU for a period of time and have become an established
member. If not, and they are 1-time posters to simply post their service
or product and then are on their way, then they aren't worth keeping
around.

There is a rule against "spamming," and spammers are not welcome
here. He may have been offering something wonderful and nice for all,
but the fact remains it was self-promotion.

This is why the term SPAM is used. SPAM = SALES.

Normally, posts of that nature are removed as soon as we can find them,
but we've slacked off enough to lock it and ask that the parties
interested simply contact the original poster. Generally, we do not allow
anyone to sell or advertise anything outside of their signatures, so this is
a huge grace in terms of our board.

OZZU is here to help others, not to sell to them. :)

Thanks UnFlux, I was just curious, and that makes sense... I'm a mod for another comp's forum and we haven't had any problems with posts of that nature yet, so I was wondering the reasoning behind the locking and or deleting so I could make a better informed decision when and if it happens on our forums.

Thanks again...

"Free" doesn't always mean "Non-Profit"...

They may offer a free services for end users, but still be making money via popups, or advertising space that they've sold.

So, it's essentially spamming. If somebody comes here, never posts before, then the first thing they do is "come check out my website, blah blah blah, btw it's free", even if it is, they're simply advertising their site for their own benefit, and more often than not doesn't benefit anybody else but them - certainly not Ozzu and its members.
