I just caught myself skipping right over the "important" threads on a new forum, and I realized I always do it on new forums these days. Over the years I've noticed that some forums moderators have a habit of using the area "stickies" and "announcements" are found in for stuff I really couldn't care less about.

I think part of me is so used to seeing the same stickies and announcements on other forums, that I'm subconsciously skipping them as if I'd already read them before, even though I haven't even read the title. Most forums use the same general layout.

Anyone else just skip these sorts of threads ?

Yes, because most of the really important announcements and stuff bigweb sends out mass PMs to let everyone know.

I'm a skipper.

//exception. When I do join a new forum, I will look for posting guidelines and read those, or things that appear to be relevant to that particular community so I don't look like a donk the first time I post.

I skipped it.
I violated it.
I got infraction points.
I laughed.
I posted they should remove the infraction points due to wrong name of forums in the agreement.
They changed agreement to reflect correct forum name.
I still had the infractions.

Do not re-post or quote any materials which violate the Forum Guidelines. This includes re-posting a thread or topic which has been previously closed by the moderators.

Creating a pdf of the post and posting a link to said pdf did not violate that rule technically. /shrug.

Things like that are the exact reason I'm vague and dickish when people ask what exactly the rules are around here. :)

dyfrin, it sounds like you know how to push peoples buttons. Perhaps there was a reason you were searching for a loophole in their rules, vengance maybe?

I glance over them and if they aren't interesting, catchy, or new, I skip them.

I've noticed the same behaviour on my forum - users skip reading stickies and announcements, or if I send around a broadcast PM they'll complain about an annoying pop up box.

I think it's in people's nature to get straight into what they came for.
