I think only 30-40% people use their real name in forums or social media sites.

I'm kind of a yes and a no. My username on most forums is kc0tma (with a zero not an O), which is my ham radio call sign. Its a unique identifier that absolutely nobody else in the world has, and there are actually a few people I talk to on the radio who only know me as that. So its not my name given to me by my parents, but it is still kind of like my name.

So how do you pronounce kc0tma?

I rarely ever use my real name, if I do it would be my first initial and my last name.

I usually just use this nickname someone gave me years ago. It used to always be available, but I've started having to add little bits to it sometimes.

I still call you ki-toe-mah, kc0tma :D

I think something about the odd shape of the zero with the t next to it makes me read it backwards unless I really focus on it.

I always say that as kc-oh-tma... that's how I see it  plus, In Russian, 'tma' means 'darkness' so that's a bit easier for me

Anyway, I don't really use my real name, but my username here is a smaller version of my real name in Russian, but in America it means stuff.

i use my name, as part of my user name. mike is such a common name that it is fairly hard to pull any information from it.

also my name is pronounced super-mike, for some reason people have trouble with the 1337 speak i toss out sometimes.

For best protection of privacy and security, it is never clever to use your real name in either kind of forum since there have been enough security breaches already. The lesser personal info one provides - and puts up for grabs - the better!
